cannot open table in Enterprise manager

Hi, each time I want to open a table (return all rows)
this message pop up:
The query cannot be executed because some files are
either missing or not registered.
I found, on microsoft.com, that I just have to reinstall
the product or use regsvr32.exe to register some dll's.
I tried both solutions and it's not working.
Any ideas?

Cannot open SSIS project in BIDS

Hi,
I have been working on an SSIS project for sometime now. The project files are located on a remote server. Suddenly I am not able to open the solution I get a lot of error messages and all the data flow taks are gone. I later found out that SSIS encrypts packages, so that other users will not be able to see them. Fine, but I have been using the same windows user account for months now. What could be the problem?
This is what I get when trying to open the solution:

There were errors while the package was being loaded.
The package might be corrupted.
See the Error List for details.

And the error list also contains messages saying "Could not load from xml".

Any pointers will be much appreciated.

Could you try to register xml libraries on your machine:

regsvr32 msxml3.dll

regsvr32 msxml6.dll

|||This is quite likely a setup issue in an entirely different application. These DLLs are used by a wide range of applications, and any one of them could have a dodgy installer, stuff you may not even think about. For example I have seeen several instances of "security patches" being deployed via SMS that have broken the registration for one or more of the MSXML versions.|||

Cannot Open / Create SQL Express Databases (.mdf files) in Visual Studio 2005 Professional

Hi, I am trying to open or create a sqlexpress database within Visual Studio 2005 Professional in the App_Data folder. If I attempt either method, I get the following dialog box:

Required Components Missing

Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=49251

The link above just takes you to the download page for Sql Server Express 2005.

I have both SQL Server 2005 Developer and SQL Server 2005 Expression instances running. The existing database will work properly in my web application, however I cannot access it through Visual Studio.

As background, I did have a problem connecting to the database via the web application, receiving a "Failed to generate a User Instance of SQL Server" error. But I was able to fix that by renaming my SQLEXPRESS folder in C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data. When the web page ran, it created another SQLEXPRESS folder.

However, I cannot figure out why I am having the other issue.

Hi,

This error means that you are not pointing to the correct instance.

Right click the mdf database > Modify Connection > Advanced > Data Source string.

Check this string and see if it points to the correct instance

I think there are still some registry entries remaining in the Registry of
the system. Delete the entries for SQL Server.
1) go to 'START -> RUN'
2) type 'regedit' and run it.
3) go to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\' folder.
4) delet the folder 'Microsoft SQL Server' in it.
CAUTION: backup your registry before doing any changes to it else you'll end
up with all haywire.
After deleting that folder, reboot once and then try installing SQL again.

Iâ'm unable to complete the first step of the install. For some reason the
Setup Support Files do not finish installing. When proceeding to the next
step I get a â'Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services Setup was unable
to install on your computerâ'. â'Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services
Setup encountered a problem and has rolled backâ'. I cannot get any further
than this. When I try the installer again it trys to install the Setup
Sopport Files again...
I am installing on Win2K Server SP4, recently rebuilt.
Below are the last few lines of the log file - it seems to be an issue with
finding the "InstalledInstances"? Any and all help much appreciated.

developers. Did you ever find answer (reason) for this and did you find a way
how to fix it? I did try to uninstall and reinstall SQL server but it doesn't

I did speak to MS support about it but between us we were unable to come up
with an answer within the timeframe my client required. Because we were
installing RS on a test box we decided to simply rebuild it in the hope that
would fix things. After that we had no problems doing the install.
Unfortunately we were none the wiser about what caused the issue.

Cannot get write permissions to a folder

I have a server ser1 which has the sql server running under the
security context of the local admin.Whn i try to copy the backup files
from this server to a network share it acnnot access the share unless
the sever has all authenticated user write permisssions.On setting the
auditing on we found that ser1$ uis the account which is trying to
write to the share.My question is as follows:- what is the difference
between the domaonname\ser1 and domainname\ser1$ account.I cannot see
this ser1$ account in the domain so I caaanot give it permissions.Is
there a way I could get to this account and give it permissions to
tighter up the security?

AjayI'm not a network adminstrator, but I tried the same thing before and it
doesn't work. If you want SQL to have access to network resources it has to
run under a domain account. Then you can grant permissions to that account
on the network share you are trying to access. You will either need to setup
sql server to run under a domain account or have sql server write the backup
locally and schedule a job that can run with domain credentials to copy the
backup to the network share.

Thanks Mark for the response:-
Here is what I notices and I was able to resolve the issue:-
ser1$ is the computername account which is trying to acces a directory
whenever the sql server uses a local admin account.We can resolve this
in three ways:-
1.Give the network share permissions for the the
domainname/computername account in this case domainname/compuetname$ .
2.Change sql servr to use a domain account means chaning the apps to
use the domain acocunt a non starteer in my enviormment as the apps are
owned by the vendors.
3.Use a proxy account for the sql server agent so that even if sql runs
on a local admin account the proxy account would enable the agent to
use a doain account.

This is just plain wrong. Changing the account that the SQL Server and
SQL Agent services run under has absolutely nothing to do with the
logins use by applications to connect to SQL databases. If you want to
access network resources from within SQL, this is how you do it. Change
the MSSQLSERVER and SQLSERVERAGENT services to run as a domain user, and
grant share permissions to that domain user.

Maybe i did not explain it right:- AT the sql end changing the sql
server to use the domain service accoutn would make the sql server run
on a domain account but the DSn which is configurd to use the local
admin account and use IIS has been configured to use the local admin by
defualt(that is what irt chooses) SO CHANING THE SECURITY CONTEXT OF
THE SQL SERVER SERVICE AND THE SQL AGENT SERICE WOULD MEAN THAT I
CHANGE THE DSN OF ALL THE APPLICATIONS WHICH ARE CONFIGURED TO LOGIN
USING NT ATHENTICATION AND LOCAL ADMIN account on the box.Surprisingly
most apps reside on the same box as the sql server and use the Local
Admin account and are configured to use a dsn /logins odf the local
account on sql server.
This is diiifcult as it entails coordinatig with vendors and so I wold
not wat to go with this option.

I would like to know if there is any trick to convert numbers to csv files. I don't have any control to format the numbers.

select cast( 1 as float)/ cast(201 as float)

Destination:CSV file

the output of the file is 4,9751243E-3

i don't want to have scientific notation on the number. I want the result to be 0,00497512437810945. how can i do it?

I tried to change the type of destination columns to String or numeric but nothing works. what is the influence of changing data type in the destination columns e the output to files?

I tried using convert but with the same results.

Can it be because of local settings or something else?

This will not work when there are thousands of rows of records - way too much manual work. There has to be some way for the numbers to stay in their original format. HELP!!|||

I found this workaround. In case you do not need more precision, you should be fine.

select cast(cast( 1 as float)/ cast(201 as float) as decimal(28,28)) as myOutput

It generates the csv like this

.0049751243781094500000000000

if I open it in Excel I get this

0.00497512437810945

This question has to do with SL Server replication with CRM
I moved the CRM SQL Server mdf & ldf files from the C drive to the E drive
following the instructions in KB872585.
Everything went well except I cannot enable replication.
I performed the following steps:
Reopen Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager; click Start, point to All Programs,
point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Enterprise Manager.
Expand Microsoft SQL Servers, expand SQL Server Group, expand your Microsoft
CRM SQL Server, then expand Replication Monitor, expand Publishers, and
expand your SQL Server Name where you will find the CRMMetaPub and CRMPub
publications.
Select CRMMetaPub and right-click the Snapshot in the right window pane.
Click Start Agent. (When finished the CRMMetaPub snapshot states, "A
snapshot of 79 article(s) was generated." )
Select CRMPub and right-click the Snapshot in the right window pane. Click
Start Agent.
This step fails with the error:
"Cannot find stored proc dbo.sp_MSmakeexpandproc."
When I search both drives for this file, I cannot find it.
I cannot find this error message in the knowledgebase.

Sounds like this proc is missing
I'm not sure why this is, but from time to time on this newsgroup and on one
site I have worked on the replication stored procedures go missing. The last
time this happened I think we were pretty sure that the service pack had not
been correctly applied.
Any way you can reapply the sp? Perhaps even SP4?

Cannot find mdf files

I have created a database on SQL Express using SQL Server Manager Express. However, when I try to connect to it in Visual Studio 2005, I cannot find the .mdf file so cannot create the project datasource. Can someone tell me where it is? Searching through the files does not find it. Knowing it cannot be obtained directly and needs to be rebuilt some other way would be helpful.

the database files you created, if you did not specify alternate positions, usually are in \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.[x]\MSSQL\Data ,where [x] is a number representing your database engine instance..

can u see the database which you created in SSMO. If yes , open a query analyser , and execute sp_helpfile sp to get the physical file of the database. If you can see in SSMO, tell us how you have created the database. Also post the connection string which you use in Visual studio.

|||To see the default path where data files are send to, navigate to the properties of the server (in SSMS). there should be an entry for the default storage path which is extracted from the registry.
